Who is crazy enough to share wealth?

January 30, 2024

Written by: Tihomir Opačić: Strategy Director @CDT Hub, Founder @Orange Hill Development and Viking Code, and Technical Director @CodingChiefs

In response to the post "Do you binge podcasts?" by my dear friend and colleague Nemanja, I don't entirely agree with the statement that everyone should have a podcast on some topic. I believe that everyone should determine their own unique medium and way to share their knowledge, ideas, and inner wealth with others. Nemanja, Miloš, and I have chosen podcasts as our medium.

I've been trying hard to "practice what I preach" and I can't remain indifferent to the decreasing empathy among colleagues in the IT world. It seems that with the arrival of top salaries that the IT sector enjoys, the motivation to participate in meetups, conferences, in the development of open-source software, recording podcasts, free tutorials has gone. The motivation to "step up to the plate" with public speaking and thus expose oneself to the famous Imposter Syndrome, i.e., the feeling that others know more about the subject than you do, has disappeared.

The reality is that when an individual starts sharing, great things begin to happen to them: They become a better expert by refining their knowledge while preparing topics they cover, they position themselves as experts among colleagues, compare their knowledge with others, and see where and how they can improve it, establish contacts with interesting people from within and outside the profession, opportunities for new collaborations open up, and perhaps what brings the most satisfaction - they receive sincere gratitude from younger colleagues who may thus learn something they need to "step up" and move to the next level of the game we all play.

Some of the ways I personally wish to contribute to the reaffirmation of this culture are by participating in creating podcasts, attending meetups and conferences as a visitor and speaker. When time allows, I write an article or two, or post some open-source code. Another way is through my involvement in CDT HUB, where I'm part of a team that, for starters, has done its best to make it easier for the community to organize events. Without wanting to write at length about the possibilities of collaboration, I will briefly say that CDT HUB offers all IT communities free space for organizing events for up to 100 people, with free sound systems, video recording and live YouTube feed, free catering, and a small budget for promoting events on social networks. If you are interested in collaborating, feel free to contact me to help you more easily share knowledge and experience, and encourage networking among colleagues.

Miloš, Nemanja, and I have shared a bit of our knowledge and experience on some interesting topics through the "Raslojavanje" podcast, this time not so much focused on IT, but on general topics. We dissect each topic layer by layer in an attempt to get to the core.

We have released all episodes at once, hope you enjoy!
